Introduction to counselling skills

Overview

Do people just seem to open up to you? Are you the person everyone seems to go to for help? Do you struggle with what to say when they share their personal problems with you? Perhaps you work in a job or volunteer position where listening to the difficulties of others in an understanding and constructive way is what is required of you.

What will we cover?

This short course will teach you the core counselling skills required for listening and helping your friends and family through difficult times, as well as counselling skills that would complement careers in customer service, social work, pastoral care and volunteer listening charities.
You will also explore the roles and responsibilities of a counsellor, basic counselling skills on how to improve listening, body language and empathy, the psychodynamic person-centred and cognitive-behavioural approaches to counselling.
